Artist Statement
I create abstract paintings that are based in subtle color and texture combinations. My process is intuitive and paintings are never planned prior to beginning. What comes through in each piece is some combination of gathered visual inspiration from nature, remembered life experiences and the feelings that remain long after an experience has passed.
For as long as I can remember, I've been drawn to the ocean. I'm endlessly inspired by its beauty as well as the power and mysteriousness of its depths. Living on the coast has offered me a unique opportunity to immerse myself in the very environment that inspires me most. I enjoy surfing, exploring local beaches and taking photos of little pieces of inspiration I come across in my daily life.
More than anything else, the act of creating is a meditative experience for me. The process itself brings me peace and offers me an opportunity to go inward. It's my hope to convey that experience through my paintings. If my work causes someone to reflect, daydream, pause or come back to the present, then it has served its purpose.
