    Present Light

Present Light is a combination of both physical and internal exploration. I was initially guided by my own need for introspection, which converged perfectly with a season that encourages a slower pace. I found myself embracing the solitude of winter, getting out for walks on the beach and gathering little bits of nature along the way. I became fascinated by the subtle color variations and contrasting textures of oyster shells I collected. When I studied them closely, they reminded me of tiny paintings. I was captivated by the fact that they possess beauty that isn't necessarily obvious at first glance. Had I been rushing or not paying attention, I would have overlooked them completely. That concept, slowing down enough to find beauty in the ordinary, became a central theme as this body of work unfolded.
In these paintings, you'll find colors and textures that were pulled from elements of the winter landscape. Patterns in the sand, subtle merging of muted colors and the fluidity of the ocean are woven through this body of work. Each piece is unique, yet tied together by inspiration, the intention to be fully present while creating and the physical use of elements from nature. Coffee, coffee grounds, charcoal, sand, limestone powder and avocado ink have been used to bring each piece to life.
I'm so happy to share Present Light with you.
